Virtual exhibition
This exhibition is part of the project “Science in Action: Forests and the Climate Emergency” (FCT-20-15850), funded by the Call for Grants to Promote Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Culture (FECyT). Here, you will find both research methods and tools, as well as findings from research projects focused on the role of forests in the face of climate change.
Through scientific research, the exhibition raises several questions:
- How do we know that climate change exists and that its origin is anthropogenic?
- How does climate change affect forests, and how is this impact studied?
- What is the relationship between forest fires and climate change, and how are the effects of fire measured?
- Trees, the fundamental species of forests, adapt to environmental changes like all living beings, but the rapid pace of current climate change is unprecedented. Will trees be able to adapt to climate change? What are their strategies, and what can we do to support their long-term conservation?
- The forests of the future depend on the conservation of current forests, the new forests we plant, and sustainable forest management. What are the benefits and limitations of reforestation as a method of combating climate change?
- Is it possible to obtain goods and services from forests while conserving them? What opportunities does silviculture offer to intervene in forests in ways that benefit both ecosystems and society?
- Science and technology provide us with increasingly powerful tools to deepen our understanding of forests and to implement forest management that is both more sustainable and capable of addressing climate change.
The digital format can be viewed here. We hope you enjoy it!
